MOM DENIM’S DARK BABY ROOM RHYMES CAPSULE COLLECTION

If I have not posted in a couple of days it’s due to the fact that I’ve been obsessing over Mother’s latest pill collection, which is motivated by “the darkness of baby room rhymes.” (If you really did not recognize nursery rhymes are dark, check this out.) I’m loving whatever here, particularly the jeans, of course, however additionally the super-cheeky socks, though I could never ever pull them off (can you envision me waltzing right into the preschool co-op in them?). The Black Feline High temperature jacket is additionally meowing my name..

The Duchess in Emilia Wickstead & Lululemon for Northern Ireland Engagements

The Duchess of Cambridge wore designs by Emilia Wickstead and Lululemon for engagements in Northern Ireland today.

A heads-up for any individual dealing with arachnophobia or ophidiophobia, there are references to both in the post.

The Duke and Duchess started their engagements at the Ulster university Magee Campus.

More from Simon Perry in his story for People.

The couple arrived in Northern Ireland Wednesday morning for their first joint post-pandemic trip, visiting Derry-Londonderry in a previously unannounced visit.  The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are meeting with young people and local groups making positive change in the community.

Below, at the students’ union.

The evening conventional reports, “They also tucked into a range of local food, including wheaten bread, a brown soda bread made with wheat flour, and ‘Tayto crisps’ potato chips.”

It looked like the Duchess was thoroughly enjoying herself.

More from The evening Standard’s article:

Next, fortifying shots of whiskey and half-pints of Guinness were on offer for the couple at the students’ union, before they were plunged into the culture shock event which is designed to introduce new students to Northern Ireland.

Another view.

The evening conventional has a lot more on the ‘culture shock’ exercise, an initiative to welcome the University’s international students. “William and Kate were quizzed on how to pronounce Irish names and learned some of the city’s colloquial phrases which have become world-famous thanks to the hit TV show Derry Girls.”

The royals were treated to music played by students using standard instruments. Richard Palmer of The express shared a video.

Danielle Stacey reports in her hey there story that “As they listened to the music, one student shouted out “Dance,” with William gesturing to Kate: “You should! She loves dancing,” but Kate laughed: “No, no, no!””

The royals toured a specially designed ambulance simulator.

More from The Telegraph’s article.

The Duchess asked about extracurricular care, saying: “Your well-being, and how you are, is that being introduced now?  There need to be a lot of anxiety to cope with.”

The Duke said: “It’s one thing to talk about mental health, it’s another thing to follow through. It’s incumbent on those above you to follow through with that.”

And spoke with nursing students.

They initially spoke with some of the students back in February.

They met the University’s first group of students in its new school of Medicine.

That school was created this year in action to the nationwide shortage in the medical workforce.  In a news release, Kensington Palace notes, “The new school will develop a new generation of doctors who will work in Northern Ireland and beyond, once their studies are complete.”

One of the a lot more interesting parts of the engagement came when the couple stopped by “KidzFarm,” a regular visitor to the campus, used to help students deal with mental health and anxiety issues.

Prince William made a new friend. a lot more from The daily Mail’s coverage.

The father-of-three quipped that his eldest son, Prince George, eight, was going to be particularly upset at the news that his daddy had held the reptile.

The Duchess also made a new friend. We return to The Telegraph’s story:

Looking at the chickens in cages, the Duchess told a pet handler: “We’ve had lots of animals during lockdown. during lockdown, animals are typically like therapy.”

Spotting a tarantula in a cage, she asked:  “Ooh, please can I hold the tarantula? What’s her name?”

The spider’s name: Charlotte.

That reminded me of Princess Charlotte’s question for David Attenborough in October of last year: “I like spiders. Do you like spiders?”

The duo then visited the City of Derry Rugby Club.

They watched young people take part in activities offered through the sport Uniting Communities program.

Those activities included mini rugby and Gaelic games.

More from the BBC’s story.

Anabelle hunter told BBC news NI that the duke and duchess spoke to them about their love of sport and the team told them how GAA has helped bring people together.

Darcy Cooper said Prince William and Catherine talked about the initiative with them and how the Covid-19 pandemic had affected their training.

“We were initially meant to play in a tournament in London, but because of Covid it stopped that from happening and Kate was saying how she hopes that we can go over there in the future,” Ms Cooper said.

Another activity was kicking a ball at an oversized dartboard.

The Duchess decided to give it a go herself.

A different angle.

I’m not sure how it went, but I believe this is a shot of Kate’s reaction to her kick.

The Duchess also took goal with another ball.

After the outdoor activities, the royals headed inside.

They met with players, coaches, and volunteers involved in ‘Sport Uniting Communities,‘ the program mentioned above.

That initiative promotes peace and reconciliation and includes the Irish Football Association, Ulster Gaelic athletic association & Ulster Rugby. a lot more from Hello’s coverage:

William gave an impromptu speech at City of Derry Rugby Club, praising the sport Uniting Communities initiative and saying he was “just really impressed (with) what you’ve achieved, seeing all the smiley faces outside running around enjoying their sports and having a really good time is just fantastic”.

“Just well done with all the efforts, all the coaching, all the hard work that’s been put in.

The Prince added, “The back of a pandemic is not the easiest time to be doing all this but hopefully it’s refocused minds to what’s crucial in life, so what you’re doing here is genuinely inspirational, so keep up the good work.”

Now for our look at what Kate wore, beginning with her vibrant magenta ensemble, with thanks to Sophia, Lauren, and Liz for their ID work.

The Duchess was in pieces by Emilia Wickstead, styles from her autumn/winter collection.

The Dida Wool Flannel jacket (£1200) is 100% wool, described as being made of a midweight flannel.  The double-breasted silhouette is a classic cut, with flap pockets, height lapels, self-covered buttons on the front and at the wrist.

The trousers are a version of the Gus style, a slim cut customized for the Duchess, removing the large cuff at the hem.

Thoughts on the look from The Telegraph’s senior fashion writer, Emily Cronin.

The most striking feature of the outfit, of course, is its colour. Purple has lots of associations. It can bring to mind women’s suffrage, political unity (red plus blue), and of course royalty – Cadbury wrappers, too. Today it proved a high-impact choice that ensured Kate stood out in a field of navy blue (Prince William’s choice) and camel.

Her suit helped Kate appear polished and put together, without looking too serious. The effect could have veered into Austin Powers territory had she worn it with one of her favourite pussy-bow blouses. but by emulating Wickstead’s styling, Kate took a modern technique to tailoring sure to resonate with countless women who also wear trouser suits (if in a lot more standard colours) to work.

She brought back her Emmy London Josie Block Heel Pumps ($405).

And quilted Jaeger handbag.

Along with her Liv Thurwell Bobble earrings.

We turn now to the second look worn by the Duchess today.

We’ll start with the define jacket ($118) from Canadian retailer Lululemon.

Made of a stretchy fabric, the jacket is a staple for the company. It has a slim silhouette, a front zipper, a funnel neck, zippered front pockets, and thumbholes on the sleeves. The style is offered in a large selection of colors at Lululemon.

Thank you to Emily and her sister for IDing this item. I have not yet looked for the trousers and am not sure we’ll get them identified from the available photos.

Kate brought back her Vazee transform Running Shoes by new Balance.

The Duchess’s mask is one of her Amaia Kids styles. It *looked* like it was the Blue Phoebe style.  UPDATE: It turns out I was wrong about the mask, it is the Blue Eloise design, not the Phoebe.

An aside about the Amaia Liberty prints used for their masks: the retailer has done a Mum and daughter capsule collection of blouses using those prints.  below you see the Duchess Blue Pepper blouse; on the right, the Duchess Pink Pepper pattern.

We’ll close with two images from the day’s events.

I do have one ‘housekeeping’ note: we need to keep our comments centered on the Duchess’s fashion. We have drifted a little off course over the summer, which is entirely on me.

It’s time to kill that old New Year’s resolution about losing weight. Right? The New Year, new You thing has been disappointing women for method as well long. Unless you’re under doctors orders to lose weight, you have no reason to tension about what the scale says — since I’ll bet you’re fabulous just the method you are.

Don’t resolve to lose weight this year — the only resolution you requirement is a body positive one!”

This year, resolve to love as well as accept your body the method it is. As inspiration, I’ve enlisted the assist of fashion entrepreneur Anne Claire Isabella, owner of Ikapela Designs. Anne, who’s been both a size 6 as well as a size 16, shares exactly how she’s kept the self-love going during and after a weight transition.

One Body positive Journey

Budget Fashionista: Anne, can you introduce yourself to the Budget Fashionista community?

Anne: Sure! My name is Anne Claire Isabella. Isabella in Hawaiian is Ikapela, hence the name of my store: Ikapela Designs. I’m 53 years young as well as love my life. I’ve been married for over 32 years as well as have three wonderful grown children and one grandson with one more grandchild on the way…HOORAY!

Professionally, I’ve been working from house for the last 10 years. I utilized to be a Merchandising manager (a fancy phrase for buying things with other people’s money). I love it.

Then my other half as well as his company partner needed a third wheel as their company was growing. I was a ideal match. Over the years I tried different things to stay hectic in my “off time,” — painting, writing, photography. Had fun however ultimately discovered sewing. I’m self taught as well as actually started sewing five years ago. That’s when I started selling my clothes on Etsy, as well as now on AmazonHandmade.

His team Lava Lava as well as Her Pareo/Sarong matching Hawaiian Polynesian wrap, skirt, cloth – special Order only – Made in Hawaii by Ikapela Designs

Budget Fashionista: I understand you managed with a weight transition. Can you explain exactly how your weight changed as well as over what period of time?

Anne: When I got married I weighed 120 lb. as well as wore size 6. I’ve always had a big okole (rump) as well as I considered it my biggest ASSet. ? I never realized exactly how great food might taste (sorry mom!…she fed us healthy and proper portions) up until I met my husband. He was in the restaurant business at the time. I started to gain a little weight, to perhaps a size 8 or 10.

Then I started having children. After my very first I was just starting to lose the weight when I got expecting with my second child. then life got truly hectic between work, home, children, etc. Ten years after my second, we had our last child. At that point, I was a size 12 or 14, however still felt healthy as well as happy.

Over the years of eating lunch with the manager or buying fast food I gained much more weight. I still did well on my physicals though, with great cholesterol levels and blood pressure.  I was never into exercise either. No one in my household was.

Budget Fashionista: Did you ever feel panic about the weight?

Anne: I can actually keep in mind the day I thought, ‘I believe I’m getting fat.’ It was the morning after a weekend of holiday parties. My fingers were swollen as well as my rings felt tight (I never take my rings off). I lifted my head to stretch as well as wondered why I might feel the back of my neck with my head. Yikes, my back was fat.

Budget Fashionista: Some women who gain weight go with a grieving period of sorts for the “way they were.” Did that occur to you?

Anne: Over the last 10 years, the one thing I grumble about is not being able to wear my heels any type of more. When I started gaining weight, I developed Plantar fasciitis so I started having to wear Jesus sandals exclusively. I liked them as well as much more importantly, they are good for your feet. Heels on the other hand are not great for your feet. They’re great for your ego, which is most likely why I miss them sometimes.

When I believe back at all the times I was thin, the only regret I have is that I didn’t take advantage of being thin. I always wore loose-fitting clothes. however I was so thin I don’t believe I looked healthy at all.

Budget Fashionista: What guidance do you have for women who are experiencing weight gain?

Anne: eat right, try to exercise, drink modestly as well as most important…be happy. believe pleased thoughts. surround yourself with positive people. If you hate your job: QUIT! You will discover a new task since you’re motivated to BE HAPPY!

Find clothes (like from my store) that scream: proud, happy, fun, comfortable as well as affordable. Wear great shoes. You’d be amazed exactly how far shoe makers have come with nice-looking shoes that are still great for your feet. Yes, even heels.

Budget Fashionista: What does the phrase ‘body positive’ imply to you?

Anne: Body positive means you love yourself. You do have to LOVE YOURSELF.  Every curve, every wrinkle, every sun spot, every fold, every gray hair as well as every part of your body.

My arms work, my legs work, my eyes work (with a little assist sometimes), my digestive system works (again, a little assist sometimes). Yes, in some cases my weight doesn’t work (like in a size 12 or 14) however it will fit in a size 16 or 18. as well as that’s a great thing!

Budget Fashionista: Some women I understand treat weight gain as a “thing to be dealt with,” rather than a part of life. Have you experienced the same? Why do you believe women react so strongly to weight gain?

Anne: society tells us that we ought to be tall, thin, tan, blonde as well as wonderful as pie. YEAH RIGHT! I’m not sure where that village is, however I online in the genuine world.

Sometimes I do think, “I have to do something about this weight.” however then life, genuine life, slaps me in the face as well as says, “hurry up, you’ve got much better things to do.” Like work to pay for shelter, transportation, insurance. as well as love my husband, children as well as grandchild even much more than yesterday. as well as be there for family members going with worse things than being overweight, like cancer, loss of a loved one, divorce, etc.

When whatever else in our lives is going well, I assumption that leaves our weight to be next on the list. however does it truly requirement to be if we’re healthy, pleased as well as functioning in our lives?

Budget Fashionista: Your weight gain led to the launch of your business. Can you share much more details about that evolution?

Anne: When I stated my store I made pillowcases, pillow covers, etc. When I moved to apparel, I thought, what is my niche? everybody says you have to have something that is needed, wanted as well as not as simple to discover as, say, bubble gum.

My niche is apparel for “real women.” I online in a neighborhood where my size 16/18 is average, or even on the smaller side.

I’ve actually only had two requests in the last four years for a size little for my blouses. If anything, I’ve had a number of requests for 5XL blouses, which I’ve filled as well as they loved them.

Budget Fashionista: Your Etsy store has amazing reviews — your customers clearly love you as well as your products. What’s your secret?

Anne: My trick is the personal touch. I acknowledge receipt of each order promptly with an email or, as Etsy calls it, a convo. I send out the orders best away, wrapped in beautiful tissue. I include a hand written note, my business card with a discount code written on the back as well as a little something additional (you’ll have to order something to discover out what that is).

Even my packaging includes a Mahalo (thank you) stamp and/or sticker. I commonly double-check with my customers to make sure my product will fit provided the measurements I provided on the description.

Readers, you can shop Ikapela Designs here.

I love Anne’s story as well as hope you did too. Here’s to body positive resolutions for 2017! now I’m going to go discover as well as donate all of my ‘target weight‘ clothes!

New Photos of Prince Louis Released to Mark His 1st birthday

As hoped, new photos of Prince Louis were released today to mark his first birthday.

It’s hard to believe this was the scene a year ago tomorrow.

Prince Louis has *really* grown considering that we last saw him in the family’s Christmas card photo.

The Duchess took the new photos at the family’s Norfolk home.

You may remember that Prince George’s first birthday was marked by three photos taken at the natural history Museum.

When Princess Charlotte turned one, we were treated to four pictures taken by Kate at the family’s home.

Here is a quick refresher on Prince Louis’s first year. We start with the first photo of the Prince following his birth, also taken by his mother.

In July of last year, Prince Louis Arthur Charles was officially christened.

The official photos were lovely, especially this one of Kate.

In addition to the formal christening photographs….

…we were treated to an “extra” shot of Louis and his mother taken by the family’s private photographer.

In November we saw new family photos that included young Louis, taken to commemorate the 70th birthday of his grandfather.

And then we saw the Prince in the Cambridge Christmas card.

The new photos were a hot topic this evening, making the front page of most London papers.  It is just a delight to watch another Cambridge child growing up. I can only think of what fun we’ll have watching him in the next year!

If interested in what Prince Louis wore in his new photos, pop over to our sister site, What Kate’s Kids Wore, where we have that information and a couple of pictures of George and Charlotte not included in this post.
