PlayStation 3 Jailbreak Hacker Goes Bankrupt, will probably end Up In jail

one of the numerous people who worked actively on bringing Yellow canine Linux back to the PS3 after Sony removed the option to install it under firmware v3.21, graf_chokolo, is now out of money to fight for his case in court and will probably end up in jail.

Things haven’t been going well for Sony ever because the whole hacking fiasco. numerous different Sony services and sites were hacked and consumer’s account data was compromised. We’ve actually lost count of how numerous times Sony have been attacked in the past few months.

George “Geohot” Hotz, the main person behind the PlayStation 3 hack who pwned it for life in January, was later sued. The case was then settled out of court in April.

However, other hackers weren’t so lucky. One such hacker goes by the name of graf_chokolo (real name: Alexander Egorenkov). Sony forced him to remove all information concerning his results from hacking the PS3, otherwise he would have to go to jail.

Well, it looks like he just might end up in jail anyway. As graf is out of funds to pay for court costs.

He posted this comment on his blog today:

Hi guys, no money left anymore. going to jail soon probably because i cannot pay court costs.

But i’m ready to stand up for everything i said and go to jail for that too. It’s not essential to win, much more essential is to show them that we are ready to fight, that they cannot scare me off easily. Yeah, i’m ready to go to jail for my believes and my principles.

Most of people probably think that all computer and kernel hackers are weak kids, hiding in a cellar, eating pizza whole day, writing software and searching for attention  Maybe, but that’s NOT me. and i will get out eventually and continue my work. My work implies very much to me.

He goes on to say that it is not essential to win; what matters is that the hackers show Sony that they are ready to fight for the best to hack a console they paid for. Bravo, graf!

While companies like Apple and Sony are strictly against hacking of their products, Microsoft, with their Windows Phone 7 product, has taken a different approach. just hours ago we wrote about Microsoft’s announcement concerning ChevronWP7 – a tool that was previously used for ‘jailbreaking’ WP7 devices – being announced as a low cost way for independent developers to unlock their WP7 devices.

Anyhow, we wish good luck to graf_chokolo. If you want to help him out, you can donate here.
