iPhone 5c Outsold The Mighty Galaxy S5 In may

Samsung’s flagship release for 2014, the Galaxy S5, launched in a blaze of glory back in April, with lots of quick to pour praise on the terrific cam and display features. but while the device’s early sales figures made for delighted reading for all connected with Samsung, the UK numbers tell a story in which the iphone 5c – Apple’s so-called “entry-level” model of iphone – managed to outsell the all-new GS5, with both the 5c and the Cupertino’s flagship 5s each shifting a lot more units for the Galaxy S5 for the month of May.

Given that may was the S5’s first full month in the market, Samsung will definitely feel a little stung that the iphone 5c – recognized by lots of as a “flop” that will subsequently meet its demise with the introduction of the iphone 6 – managed to sell in higher numbers than its most current humdinger. When one considers that the 5c also released back in September, alongside the 5s, it’s not a particularly excellent show from Samsung, and although the Korean outfit still took pleasure in record first-weekend sales – those coming in April, of course – it’s interesting to note how swiftly that initial hype has died down in certain quarters.

The research data for this report arrives courtesy of Kantar Worldpanel, but while pushing less than the iphone 5c just weeks after debuting may well feel like a loss, the firm did uncover some crumbs of comfort for Samsung. Notably, nearly one-fifth of new Galaxy S5 owners took the leap from an Apple iPhone, and while it remains to be seen whether these converts will stick with Android for years to come, it need to be encouraging for Samsung to have consumers dropping the device of their a lot of bitter adversary.

Then again, it would seem that the main rationale behind going from iOS to Android is for the increase in display real estate, and with the iphone 6 set to do precisely that by using 4.7- and 5.5-inch variants, it will be interesting to monitor the potential shift in market share as a consequence.

Analysts have already touted that the larger-screened iPhone(s) will prompt a record number of iphone owners to upgrade, but notably, some have also suggested that Android users will jump ship en masse – no longer having to sacrifice the idea of owning an iphone in buy to own a handset with a large display.

Fingerprint Gestures Makes Fingerprint Scanners more useful

When Google launched the Pixel and Pixel XL, the company made sure to stuff them up with some exclusive features that other Android phones didn’t have. one of them, the Google assistant is now available on any Android device running Android Marshmallow and above. another feature that set the Pixel phones apart were fingerprint gestures. Now, fingerprint gestures were nothing new back then either. manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi were actually the first ones to come up with the idea. nor are fingerprint gestures an exclusive feature as Google would have had you believe. You can get Google Pixel like fingerprint gestures on any Android device without root with an app called Fingerprint Gestures.

Fingerprint Gestures expands on the possibilities

Cloudy Day Apps‘s new app is marked on the Google Play store as “Unreleased” meaning it is under development, but you can install it right now anyway. most probably it will work just fine anyways. The app brings not only the “Swipe for notifications” gesture from the Pixel but also provides you with other options. These include navigation gestures (back, recents, home), quick access to notifications and quick settings, bringing up the Power dialog, split screen, scrolling up and scrolling down.

But …
There is one big, or shall I say huge limitation to the app, however. It only works with an Android device with at least Android SDK 26. meaning Android devices with a fingerprint scanner and running Android O which itself is under development. This limits the app to basically the Pixel devices and a couple of Nexus devices for now. considering how competitors are still to this day and age making fun of the distribution of Android updates, expect the number of devices to rise very, very slowly.

Don’t miss: Scroll screen content on Android using volume keys with Volkey

Here’s why
This isn’t the developer’s fault because, until the release of the Android O developer preview 3, there weren’t any APIs for the Fingerprint scanner on Android. This meant third-party developers had to write everything from the ground up. but with the third dev preview of Android O, developers got access to the new set of APIs introduced that will be introduced with the launch of Android O later this year. Fingerprint Gestures uses one such API called FingerprintGestureController. The API is part of the Accessibility services that allow an app to capture the finger movements across the fingerprint scanner.

In case you are one of the chosen ones, you can try out the app. That’s true even if you have a Pixel. even though already present, the functionality is limited on the Google Pixel. Fingerprint Gestures can help expand the possibilities. One can only hope that more options will be added to the app as it comes out of development. hopefully right alongside the Android O release.

Fingerprint Gestures is a paid app that costs $0.99 but is available for free until June 16. So if you’re interested, there probably won’t be a better time.

Re-Enable Facebook chat Without Facebook messenger

Facebook, the well-known social media network that is used and loved by lots of Internet users has recently caused some dispute relating to their mobile app. Facebook has started a movement towards having two standalone apps, one for what used to be called Facebook chat and the other for everything else that is Facebook. lots of users reacted negatively towards this change as they preferred to have everything in a single app. This indicates that users are now using two separate apps which both draw on battery life, take up space and often it’s just a pain to have to switch between two apps for one social network.

XDA senior member, AntaresOne is one of these unhappy users and so made a decision to take matters into his own hands. This has resulted in good news for other users who feel the older Facebook app worked in a much better way. AntaresOne has created an app that will re-enable the chat service within your Facebook app. This was accomplished because Facebook had merely disabled the service and not completely removed it. So now we understand why the size of the Facebook app never decreased considerably when the divide took place.

If you’ve had enough of Facebook messenger and want to revert to the previous setup, you can use Antares One’s app to re-enable your Facebook Chat. The app requires only a single launch and it will restore your Facebook Chat. However, it hasn’t been confirmed as working on all devices just yet. The re-enabler is capable of being used on any Android OS above 2.3 where the device also supports the actual Facebook app and going all the way up to the new Android Lollipop. The complication is that it only works on the Facebook app with version number 20.0.0.25.15 (or lower) and 21.0.0.23.12(which is the current version available as of now).

So, if you’re into the “Anti-Facebook Messenger” movement, all you need to do is the following and you’ll soon have your beloved Facebook chat back where it belongs.

Check if your version number is supported. if not maybe you require an update, falling short of which you could try to download a Facebook.apk with a supported version number and install it yourself.

Download AntaresOne’s incredible file from here.

Install and run.

That’s right, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3, this time at least. Obviously, it is unknown whether or not the file will work with future versions of Facebook so it may be best to stay away from updates for now until they’re confirmed as working. It’s also probably a good idea to bear in mind that Facebook will probably decide to remove this dormant code at some stage, making this apps purpose void and resulting in you having to use the messenger app anyways.

AntaresOne has also stated that the battery drain of having both Facebook apps running concurrently is shocking, and that causes a large amount of RAM usage which in turn could slow down your device. check out the original XDA thread to view other people’s comments and keep yourself updated on this app’s progress.

MINIMALIST LED LIGHT DETECTING candle

Our flickering LED circuit integrated two understood circuit, as well as definitely wasn’t graceful since of it. [sprite_tm] saw rather a few areas where the circuit might be reduced. He ended up taking it down to just two LEDs, a battery, as well as an ATtiny13. The very first step was getting rid of the present limiting resistors. The datasheet shows that with a 3V supply the AVR will limit the present well below the maximum current. The light sensor was eliminated next. [sprite_tm] referenced an earlier publish on sensing with LEDs. He measures the voltage across one of the LEDs while it is off to see exactly how much light is hitting it. The present draw while on is 10mA as well as 50uA while off.

How To enable Messages In iCloud With iOS 11.4, macOS 10.13.5 Or later

Here’s how to turn on sync for Messages in iCloud with iOS 11.4, macOS 10.13.5 or later for iMessage and other text messages.

Apple first announced Messages in iCloud way back during WWDC last year, but while it did briefly make an appearance during the initial beta release of iOS 11, it was removed in subsequent releases and never found its way into the shipping version that everyone installed back in September. That is the way things have been ever since, too, but with the initial beta of iOS 11.3, Apple again offered Messages in iCloud for beta testers to try out, and now with iOS 11.4 final, it’s available to everyone.

The pull of Messages in iCloud is obvious. As things stand, messages are not synced across multiple devices, meaning that even if you do have messages appear on every device you own, there is still the possibility that they will be out of order depending on spotty network connections, etc. having the messages saved in iCloud rather than on devices fixes that issue. If you want to enable Messages in iCloud, here is what you need to do.

Step 1: download and install iOS 11.4.

Step 2: enable Messages in iCloud by opening the settings app, selecting your Apple ID, and then tapping iCloud. now you just need to toggle Messages to the “On” position.

Step 3: This step may not be required if it is already enabled, but if not, you will now be prompted to set up two-factor authentication. If you already use Apple Pay, then this will likely already be done, though.

Step 4: You’re all done!

As a bonus, and if you are using a Mac with macOS 10.13.5 installed, then you should be prompted to turn Messages in iCloud on once it has been enabled via iOS. If not, head to the Messages app, followed by Preferences. next up, click on the Accounts tab and then select your iMessage account over on the left side of the window. Finally, tick the box labelled enable Messages in iCloud.

You should now be all set!
